The number of corona infections and deaths has risen significantly in China, and one US citizen also died. The fourteenth case has been proven in Germany.
The coronavirus spreads faster again after the rise in new diseases had decreased slightly for two days in a row. Across China, 34,546 infections have now been confirmed. According to the National Health Commission, this is 3,399 more than a day earlier. The number of deaths increased by 86 to 722.
The Chinese province of Hubei, where the virus initially broke out in the metropolis of Wuhan, 24,953 confirmed infections with the 2019-nCoV pathogen and 81 new fatalities have been reported.
The first foreign deaths have also been confirmed in China. As the US embassy in Beijing announced on Saturday, a 60-year-old US citizen infected with the virus died in Wuhan on February 6. A Japanese also died in Wuhan, according to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Accordingly, it was a man in his 60s who was suspected of being infected with the virus. The patient had suffered from severe pneumonia.
Outside of mainland China, there are over 270 other cases in more than two dozen countries, including 14 in Germany. Another case of infection – the twelfth – has been detected in Bavaria. It was the wife of a man who worked for the auto parts supplier Webasto and had tested positive for the virus in the past week. The patient, like her husband, is now being medically monitored and treated in isolation in a Munich clinic, it said. The ministry did not provide further details.
