The Northern Ireland Protocol regulates the importation of British goods across the Northern Irish border. In the dispute with the EU, Prime Minister Johnson now wants to “drag” it.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has threatened further unilateral action in the dispute with the EU over trade rules for the British province of Northern Ireland. In doing so, he primarily targeted the so-called Northern Ireland Protocol from the Brexit trade agreement. “We are removing what we perceive as unnecessary protuberances and obstacles that have arisen, and we tear the noose off and grind it into shape,” Johnson told the BBC.
In Northern Ireland, hundreds of people have recently taken to the streets in various cities in protest against a trade barrier between Great Britain and Northern Ireland since Brexit. In Belfast, it was mainly young people who attacked the police and set fire to a barricade, as reported by local media.
