The Consumers’ Association is filing a complaint against WhatsApp in Brussels. The union believes that the chat service is putting pressure on users to accept new terms of use.

The Consumers’ Association is therefore approaching the European Commission and the European organization of supervisors. It submits the complaint together with seven other European sister organizations and the umbrella organization BEUC.

WhatsApp users are shown “recurring, intrusive notifications” that they must accept the app’s new privacy policy, according to the Consumers’ Association. According to the union, this creates “unnecessary pressure” and hinders people’s freedom of choice, and therefore the reports are in violation of European rules.
