brazil unused dam breaks

Death-number Dambroup Brazil Rises to 9, Almost 300 Missing

Due to a break in an unused dam in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, at least nine people were killed. Nearly 300 people are still missing. Several people were also injured.

The governor of Minas Gerais thinks that the death toll is going to rise. “From now on we have to take into account that we will no longer find any living people, but only bodies,” Romeu Zema told reporters.

Many of the missing persons are employees of the company, Vale SA, which operates the dam. Of the 427 employees, 279 are not missing, the rest have not yet been found after the break of the dam.

Another dam flooded the Brumadinho dam. This caused a mudflow to start. The mud did not hit Brumadinho, but a lot of infrastructure in the area, such as roads and bridges, is broken.
