An individual’s lawsuit follows the failed impeachment: Bennie Thompson wants to sue Trump for storming the Capitol. He speaks of a plot.
A US Democratic MP from the U.S. House of Representatives is taking legal action against former President Donald Trump for storming the Capitol. Mississippi MP Bennie Thompson filed a lawsuit in Washington, D.C. He accuses Trump, his lawyer Rudy Giuliani and several extremist groups of a conspiracy. Together they are said to have forged a plot to instigate the violent riots and stop the official confirmation of Trump’s electoral defeat in the U.S. Congress.
“While most Republicans in the Senate have surrendered their duty to consider the president responsible, we should consider him responsible for the ruckus he has so clearly arranged,” said Thompson, who serves as head of the Homeland Security Committee in the House of Representatives, With.
In his indictment, Thompson relies on the so-called Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871. The law was passed at the time so that U.S. presidents can take action against the racist group. One of the law articles prohibits conspiracies that affect that the incumbent is prevented from performing his official duties.
