Iran has 'accidentally' shot down the Ukrainian plane

Iran says it has “accidentally” taken down a Ukrainian passenger plane

Iran has ‘accidentally’ shot down the Ukrainian plane that crashed at Tehran on Wednesday because it was mistaken for an enemy target. Iranian state media report this based on a statement from the army.

The Boeing 737 is said to have flown right past a military base of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, upon which it was brought down. All 176 passengers of the Ukraine International Airlines aircraft died in the crash.

Earlier, Iran strongly denied that it had anything to do with the crash and that there was a technical defect.
