Kiki Bertens has reached the second round at the Australian Open without too many problems. The number 9 on the Melbourne placement list beat Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in two sets: 6-1 6-4.
Begu immediately missed her first save in the second game, after which Bertens quickly reached 4-1.
After a new game loss, it was 6-1 within half an hour. Bertens started just as energetically in the second set. She immediately broke the storage of 29-year-old Romanian, who also returned her service in the third game: 3-0. That happened to Bertens herself in the following game, but at 5-4 and 40-0 she finished the match by utilizing her first game point.
Bertens (28) did not get any further than the second round at the Australian Open last year. The Russian Anastasia Pavilishenkova then eliminated her. The next opponent comes from the match between Katerina Bondarenko from Ukraine or the Australian Arina Rodionova.
