Lieke Martens is going to extend her contract with FC Barcelona by two years. The attacker of the Orange Women is therefore stuck with the Catalans until mid-2022.
At the end of last season, various media linked Martens to a transfer. Shanice van de Sanden’s Olympique Lyon would be interested in the 26-year-old attacker, but she connects her future with Barcelona.
Martens is entering her third season as a player of the Catalan formation. She signed a three-year contract with Barcelona in the summer of 2017 and was named the best player in the world after her first season. UEFA then proclaimed her to be the European football star of the year.
In her first season, Martens won the Copa de la Reina – the women’s cup tournament in Spain – and the Copa Catalunya with Barcelona. The Spanish formation had to leave Atlético Madrid the national title in the 2017/2018 season, just like last season.
