The American president Donald Trump comes with “very big news” this afternoon. According to various American media, the leader of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, is said to have died during a special operation of the American army.
For example, the American news channel CNN writes that a senior US defence official and another anonymous source report that the IS leader has died. A DNA test is still awaiting final confirmation.
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is said to have died during a secret mission of the American army in northwestern Syria. Trump would have given permission for that operation about a week ago.
During the raid, it would have been a brief change of shot, after which the IS leader killed himself with a bomb vest. Two of his wives were also reportedly killed by that explosion.
The CIA would have helped find the IS leader, CNN writes. The American news magazine Newsweek writes that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is said to have stayed in the province of Idlib. This is remarkable because that is the last major rebel area in the country that is mainly controlled by rival jihadists.
