USA supports UN participation in Taiwan
The US and Taiwan have discussed participation in the United Nations. The talks are taking place at a historically and politically explosive time.
Representatives of the USA have started talks with government representatives from Taiwan about the participation of the island state in the United Nations (UN). “The US representatives reaffirmed the US commitment to meaningful participation by Taiwan in the World Health Organization and the UN Climate Change Convention and discussed ways in which Taiwan can contribute to other issues,” said US State Department.
The Taiwan State Department then thanked the United States for its “determined support”.
According to the US, the meeting was about “global challenges” such as health, development aid, climate change and pollution, technical standards and economic cooperation. Taiwan officials were then voted out of office.
